On Thursday, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was named to the NBA All-Star team as a reserve. It’s the first All-Star bid of the 25-year-old’s career, and the way he found out about it was absolutely fantastic.
Green was doing an interview on CSN Bay Area, when a surprised guest jumped in on the program: his mother.
Watch Green’s mom break the news of his All-Star selection (skip to the 1-minute mark):
Green was probably the biggest snub when NBA All-Star starters were announced last week, but he’ll gladly take the way everything played out, and said he had to “keep from crying” when his mom broke the news:
“I had to keep from crying,” Green said on a post-announcement conference call.
The 6-foot-7 forward is making his first All-Star appearance. Green and teammate Klay Thompson were selected among the seven reserves by a vote of coaches within the conference.
“It means a lot,” Green said Thursday on SportsTalk Live on CSN Bay Area. “Getting voted in as a starter would have been great, but when you’re talking getting voted in by the coaches . . . I love that. That’s even better. That’s (from) your peers. You’re playing against them, so that means they have some respect for what you do.”
