The Boston Celtics defeated the Golden State Warriors 116-100 on Wednesday night to take a 2-1 lead in the 2022 NBA Finals. However, it feels like the Boston crowd might have gotten an even bigger win, getting under the skin of the Golden State players and coaches.
The Boston crowd was not too kind to Draymond Green and seemed to delight in his poor game. They were also heard very clearly chanting “f*** you, Draymond” at one point.
After the game, Steve Kerr was asked about the chant and dismissively said “classy. Very classy.”
Meanwhile, Klay Thompson went one step further and chastised Boston fans for chanting a curse while children may have been present.
“Dropping F-bombs with children in the crowd,” said Thompson. “Really classy. Good job Boston.”
To be fair, if Thompson is concerned about adults cursing in front of children, he probably wanted to give Green a heads up about that.
Did the crowd take it a bit far? Sure, it’s not great, but it’s also nothing we haven’t heard at sports arenas for decades. The Warriors seem more upset about it because they lost than anything else. And the NBA world reacted, as you might imagine, with more chastising, especially for Thompson, who was being a little hypocritical based on previous comments he made.
If the Warriors are going to spend the entire time between games complaining about a Boston crowd swearing then we might get the first entirely muted on tv game broadcast in game 4

Game 4 on Friday is also in Boston and if we know anything it’s that the chants are going to be even louder this time. The Warriors should probably stock up on earplugs.
