Tyronn Lue did not pull his punches in his first postgame press conference as Cavaliers coach.
Following Cleveland’s loss to the Bulls on Saturday, Lue questioned whether the team was in adequate physical shape.
“I just don’t think we’re in good enough shape. Early we want to push it, wanted to open the floor, and early I think we did that, but I think we just dropped off the map. I think we got tired. Bron came out early, [Kyrie Irving] came out early, Kevin [Love] wanted to come out early. I just don’t think we’re in good enough shape right now to play in the style that we want to play.”

As a rookie coach reportedly chosen by LeBron James to coach this team, Lue enters the gig under the assumption that he’s essentially a puppet coach, and maybe he’s trying to dispel that perception by calling out his stars right off the bat.
Still, criticizing players’ conditioning seems fairly unproductive. If LeBron and company aren’t in shape, that’s not something they’re going to be able to change all of a sudden in the middle of the NBA grind.
For a 30-12 team, the Cavs are the subject of a whole lot of worrying. Falling at home to the Bulls isn’t great, but losses happen, and they were breaking in a brand new coach. Lue probably doesn’t have too much to fret about.
Then again, the narrative seems to have done a total 180 since a few months ago when we were hearing about LeBron’s sense of heightened urgency.
One thing about LeBron and the Cavs, they never go long without some drama.
