Details continue to trickle out regarding the 2019-20 NBA season resumption.

We’ve already known that the NBA intends to have a 22-team restart in Orlando beginning July 31, and wants the playoffs to be over by Oct. 12. And on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium provided more specifics with the tentative NBA schedule.

Charania shared key dates for the NBA postseason schedule, including Game 1 of the NBA Finals: Sept. 30.

  • Play-in tournament: Aug. 16-17
  • First round of playoffs begin: Aug. 18
  • Second round of playoffs begin: Sept. 1
  • Conference Finals begin: Sept. 15
  • The Finals begin: Sept. 30

Charania added that The Finals will indeed have a “finish date” of Oct. 12.

The COVID-19 pandemic has largely shut down the sports world, but September and October figure to be pretty bonkers for American pro sports. If everything goes as hoped, we’ll have the second round through Finals of the NBA playoffs, the first half of the NFL season, and perhaps the MLB stretch run and postseason (if they actually have a season). The 2019-20 NHL season could also be happening then, but there hasn’t been an official announcement for their planned schedule yet.
