Former NBA coach George Karl continues to stir things up in an effort to sell his upcoming book, Furious George: My Forty Years Surviving NBA Divas, Clueless GMs, and Poor Shot Selection. In an interview with New York Magazine on Wednesday, Karl decided to take his latest shot at star point guard Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers:

What happened?
I was watching the Portland Trailblazers play, and I was trying to figure out, What the hell is wrong with this team? My conclusion is that Damian Lillard is getting too much attention.

What makes you think that?
Who controls the team? The coach and the point guard. And that team is not working. I think their coach, Terry Stotts, is a great coach. So I’m going to say the problem is Lillard. They were a together, connected, committed team last year. This year they’re not. What changed?

Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts was asked about the comments before the team’s game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, and did not hold back in response, saying that Karl “needs to stay in his own lane”:

Stotts was an assistant under Karl in the CBA, as well as with the Seattle SuperSonics and Milwaukee Bucks, but it’s fair to assume their relationship won’t be quite as friendly going forward.

It’s also fair to assume that Stotts will not be buying Karl’s book.
