The Phoenix Suns may have been the most disappointing team in the NBA this season. Despite having the most expensive roster in the NBA, thanks to names such as Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the Suns didn’t make the playoffs this season.
Phoenix finished 11th in the Western Conference, failing to even qualify for the play-in tournament. Apparently, that’s not enough for the Suns to have doubts concerning one of their stars, according to one prominent insider.
“The Suns will offer Devin Booker a two-year, $149.8 million extension this offseason, per (Brian Windhorst)…
“Already under contract through 2027-28, Booker would make $75 million annually in his early-30s. Booker is viewed as untouchable in Phoenix,” reported Evan Sidery on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the report on social media.
“I can’t imagine there is another team in the league that would pay Booker that much… He is a very good player, but nowhere near good enough to take up that much cap space,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Hence why many of these NBA franchises are lost at sea and beyond repair. Suns a classic case. They are so tone deaf and out of touch with what winning looks like,” another fan added.
“I get why they’d give him the money but the franchise needs a reset. Blow it completely. I feel like he could use a fresh start somewhere else. I know he doesn’t want to leave but Book will get the most back in a trade. Blow the whole thing up,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Suns plan to build around Booker after awarding him such a massive extension.
