Shaquille O’Neal has always had a sense of humor. When he saw the buzz generated from the news that Kyrie Irving believes the earth is flat, Shaq just could not resist pulling a little bit of a prank. After initially joining in the flat-earth movement, Shaq now says he was just pulling our legs.
Appearing as a guest on The Art of Charm podcast, host Jordan Harbinger got Shaq on the record to set things straight.
Harbinger: “What’s going on with the flat Earth thing? Are you just messing with everybody with that?”
O’Neal: “No, the Earth is flat. Would you like to hear my theory?”
Harbinger: “Yeah, tell me about it.”
O’Neal: “The first part of the theory is, I’m joking, you idiots. That’s the first part of the theory. The second part is, I said jokingly that when I’m in my bus and I drive from Florida to California, which I do every summer, it seems to be flat. When I’m in my plane, and we’re getting ready to land, and I open up the window, and I’m looking at all the land that we’re flying over, it seems to be flat.”
Irving, of the Cleveland Cavaliers, said recently “This is not even a conspiracy, the Earth is flat.” Many laughed at Irving’s comments, and some may have even thought he was joking, but he has stuck to that belief without backing down when asked about it. When he has been asked about it, he has suggested it has proven a point about the media coverage. Alright, whatever.
But Shaq? He was just having some fun. Maybe it was all a publicity stunt for the Podcast One podcast network, which includes Shaq’s own podcast and The Art of Charm.
We were a bit skeptical of Shaq’s comments previously, but the story seemed to settle in for at least a little bit once he put the message out there. But at least Shaq got his laughs in at our expense.
We’re all a bunch of idiots, but at least we believe the world is not flat.
This is just a joke, I listened Shaq talking about it on the AoC podcast, it was a great interview
