Now that Dan Hurley has turned down the Los Angeles Lakers, where do they turn? The Lakers found themselves embarrassed and in a bind and now some are questioning if LeBron James is hurting the team’s chances of landing a great head coach.
Rumors have it that JJ Redick was the front-runner for the job because of his relationship with LeBron James and the fact they do a podcast together, which makes everyone question how much influence James has on the Lakers coaching search.
Shannon Sharpe said on First Take Tuesday that the problem is the team has high expectations that may turn off potential coaches. He said along with great players come even greater expectations.
“It’s a blessing and a curse,” Sharpe said. “Because you give to a coach historically great players, but you know what comes along with that? Expectations, expectations that you win the title every year which are unrealistic but that’s the expectations that great players come along with.”
Sharpe believes that the Lakers’ high expectations may be why Hurley turned down the job. Whatever the case may be, the Lakers are back to the drawing board in their coaching search.
