LeBron James has been a staple in the NBA, seemingly forever, as he prepares to enter his year 23 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, the brutal truth is that James is nearing the end of his playing career.
In fact, ESPN’s number one basketball insider is reporting that James will opt into the last year of his current contract with the Lakers, and that everything is pointing toward him calling it a career after the season concludes.
“Year 23 for No. 23. They have the All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. So, to me, it’s very storybook if that’s the way it goes. But that’s a decision that he’s gotta make,” Shams Charania said.
Fans reacted to the report on social media.
“I want the Lakers to focus on the Lakers at some point. I don’t care about his story or his book,” one Lakers fan wrote on Twitter.
“wait I just realized if bron really do retire next year that means john cena AND lebron james will both be retired before the end of 2026 im gonna cry,” one fan added.
“No way he dips before the Olympics unless he has a guaranteed roster spot they are in LA 2028 I believe,” someone else added.
If this is it for James, hopefully, he’s able to make one last title run.
