Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young has been out of the NBA since the 2018-19 season. On Friday, he revealed that he wants to have a boxing match against a former teammate who he had drama with while playing.
Celebrity boxing matches have been something that has become extremely popular as of late. Young revealed on the Boxing with Chris Mannex podcast that if he could have a boxing match with anyone, he would choose former Lakers teammate D’Angelo Russell.
“D’Angelo Russell… Some guys on the Warriors, some guys on the Lakers… Couple of coaches,” said Young on who he would ideally like to box.
Young has had some very public issues with Russell in the past while the two played on the Lakers together, most notably because of a leaked video filmed by Russell detailing Nick Young’s extramarital exploits with then-partner Iggy Azalea.
Russell received a ton of backlash at the time for this video, being labeled by many as a “snake” for airing out his teammates’ dirty laundry. It appears that the grudge between the two is something that was never resolved.
It seems unlikely that Russell will be stepping into the ring against Young anytime soon considering Russell’s basketball career is still going well, which wasn’t the case for Young.
Young appears serious about his new-found boxing career, and any matchup against Russell in the future will have to be put on the back burner. Young is currently preparing for an upcoming boxing match against rapper Blueface.
