The Los Angeles Lakers have two superstars on their roster in forward LeBron James and Luka Doncic, the latter of whom the franchise acquired midseason in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
James is on the back nine of his career, as he gears up to enter his 23rd season in the association. It would appear that the Lakers are well aware of this and have decided to prioritize keeping Doncic in the loop on the direction of the franchise instead of the superstar they’ve been confiding in for the last several years.
“The Lakers reportedly informed Luka Dončić about the sale of the team to Mark Walter but never told LeBron James, per (Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst)
“’When the Buss family agreed to sell a majority stake in the franchise to Mark Walter on June 18, Doncic was given a heads-up and notably posted a congratulations on social media afterward. James was not given the same notice and did not post any public acknowledgement afterward,’” reported NBA Central on Friday.
Fans reacted to the shocking news on social media.
“Lakers are a garbage organization and were lucky asf he signed with then they should be grateful to him,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“When the face of your franchise finds out after the new guy… that’s not just disrespect—it’s a statement,” one fan added.
“The lakers are pathetic. lebron is the one who brought them back from the dead with the 2020 championship,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if LeBron and the Lakers move on from one another sooner than most people are anticipating.
