By all accounts, Matt Barnes got the best of Derek Fisher when the two traded blows in October, but the altercation continues to cause damage to Barnes’ wallet.
The Grizzles’ forward has been fined $35,000 by the NBA, reportedly for comments made after Memphis played Fisher’s Knicks on Saturday.
Barnes and Fisher’s initial altercation came after Barnes found out his former teammate was romantically involved with his ex-wife. In December, Barnes was suspended two games for the incident.
In the first game of the season between the Knicks and Grizzlies, Barnes hit a key shot to help win the game, for his only basket of the game, then unleashed some trash talk.
Barnes probably knew when he said that stuff that a fine was coming. You can’t really go talking about being violent to your colleagues and not expect to pay for it.
The teams play again February 5 in New York, so we can expect more sniping from Barnes and probably more fines from the NFL.
