NBA star LeBron James has been very open about his hopes to play with his oldest son, Bronny, in the NBA before he retires from basketball. But there’s a chance LeBron could stick around even longer to play with his younger son Bryce, too.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, LeBron wouldn’t exactly commit to staying in the league long enough to play with either of his sons, but he certainly didn’t rule it out, either.
“I like to throw things out in the airwaves, but I’m not one to [say] what’s going to happen in the next two to three years. I am a visionary, but I’m also a guy that lives in the moment,” LeBron told SI. “I’d definitely be looking at who got first-round picks in 2024, 2025, things of that nature; 2026, ’27. I pay attention to that type of stuff.”
If LeBron does play until Bryce is able to join the NBA in 2027, LeBron will be at least 43 years old. It seems like a lot to ask, but given how he’s currently still playing at 37 years old and how Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is performing at 45 years old, it’s certainly a possibility.
“I feel like I could play for quite a while,” LeBron said. “So it’s all up to my body, but more importantly, my mind. If my mind can stay sharp and fresh and motivated, then the sky’s not even a limit for me. I can go beyond that. But we shall see.”
But there are a few steps before LeBron’s sons get to the NBA. Bronny has plenty of options and is slated to visit Ohio State this weekend. Meanwhile, Bryce just picked up his first scholarship offer from the Duquesne Dukes.
