A new detail has emerged in the ongoing saga with Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets that could have changed the entire story.
As the world watches and shares its thoughts on the situation, it turns out the team almost parted ways with the star player. Nets owner Joe Tsai considered cutting Kyrie after he watched the controversial antisemitic film Irving shared on his Twitter account.
Bleacher Report and Rolling Stone reporter Matt Sullivan, who wrote a book about the Nets’ 2020 season, said Tsai considered cutting the maligned Irving.
“I was told that the Tsais watched this entirely vile documentary on their couch two weekends ago and thought about cutting Kyrie,” Sullivan said via Audacy. “This is even though the lying GM of the Nets, Sean Marks, said last week the team never considered it.”
The rationale for not making the move? According to Sullivan, “I was told that the Tsais realized that they’d be making a martyr out of a stubborn fool. So maybe those conditions to return as a way to kind of be able to release him without Kyrie taking the money and martyrdom with him.”
Many panned the Nets and the NBA for their flat statements as the saga persisted. They were probably justified in doing so, as the statements were pretty weak. No one is really sure what’s next, but the Nets appeared to nearly part ways with the controversial Irving.
