The late Kobe Bryant is the cover athlete for the NBA 2K24 game, and while fans cheered the decision, many are not happy with the cover artwork.
NBA 2K announced Thursday it will release a “Kobe Bryant Edition” and a “Black Mamba Edition” of the game, with different cover artwork for each.
It marks Bryant’s fourth appearance on the popular game’s cover.
Bryant, an 18-time NBA All-Star, died in a helicopter crash in California in 2020. While fans thought the game made a great decision to honor the legendary player, many were merciless in attacking the cover design. Many observers pointed out that the game manufacturer appeared to paste the Black Mamba Kobe image over the younger Kobe image. How could they tell? Because a couple of fingers could be seen sticking out from behind Black Mamba’s head.
Other fans pointed out the Kobe Bryant Edition shows him around 2000 or 2001, wearing Nike shoes, although he did not sign a contract with that company until 2003.
