Back in June, megastar Kevin Durant delivered the NBA world the biggest news of the offseason when he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. But nearly a month-and-a-half later, the Nets have not found a trade partner and teams are losing interest in trading for the former MVP. However, Durant still wants to be traded – unless the Nets make some drastic front-office changes.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, Durant met with Nets owner Joe Tsai over the weekend and reiterated his desire to be traded from the team. However, Durant also outlined a path that could keep the NBA star in Brooklyn, telling Tsai that he must choose between Durant or the pairing of general manager Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash.
While Durant has made it clear that he would like to be traded, the Nets are under no obligation to do so. And the team is reportedly seeking “a historic return on players and draft picks,” which could make it difficult to find a trade partner.
NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski said last month that there is “absolutely” still a chance that Durant remains in Brooklyn despite the superstar’s trade request. Durant’s latest conversation with Tsai outlines a way that his return to the team could be a possibility.
