Since the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving from Brooklyn Nets to Dallas, the Mavericks are an embarrassing 7-12. Head coach Jason Kidd let his team have it on Friday night.
Most NBA experts thought this trade might put the Mavs in a prime position to win an NBA title but that’s far from happening right now.
In their most recent loss to the lowly Charlotte Hornets, Dallas fans, frustrated by their team’s effort, booed them.
Kidd agreed with his fan base saying that his team “probably should’ve been booed in the first quarter,” and that their efforts were “awful” and “*******.”
But Irving didn’t feel the same way. When asked about the boos, Irving seemed nonchalant about it.
“You obviously want to play well, but it’s only five people on the court that can play for the Dallas Mavericks,” Irving continued. “If the fans want to change places, then hey, be my guest. Got years of work ahead to be great enough to be on this level. But our focus isn’t necessarily on the boos.”
“It should be on our performance and just being there for each other,” he said.
Irving is obviously used to the criticism from New York fans so it doesn’t faze him.
However, Jason Kidd thinks fans have a right to be angry.
“They have a right [to boo],” Kidd told the media after the game.
