Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant found himself in some hot water after posting a video of himself displaying a gun at a nightclub earlier this month. This sparked an investigation by the Glendale Colorado Police Department, which concluded on Wednesday.
Morant has notably stepped away from the Grizzlies organization and taken time away from social media after this incident. Fortunately, it looks like Morant will not face any criminal charges for his actions.
Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed a statement from Glendale Police Department. This statement detailed that they have closed their investigation into criminal action towards Morant.
The statement cites that there was “probable cause existing for the filing of any charges” and that nobody was threatened by Morant with the firearm in the nightclub.
While it is great that Ja Morant will not face any criminal charges, he very clearly still needs to work on things in his personal life. Morant was accused earlier this month of punching a child “12-13 times” during a pickup game at the NBA star’s house last summer.
He at least seems to realize that things need to change, detailing as much in a statement to his fans after the video emerged.
“I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on dealing with stress and my overall well-being,” said Morant in his statement.
Hopefully Morant is able to change his life around. On the basketball court, he has been absolutely sensational in his four-year NBA career, making two All-Star games and leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs last year.
