It will be quite some time before we can judge what kind of NBA player that Gradey Dick will be. But he’s starting his NBA career in unforgettable style — literally.
The NBA Draft often doubles as something of a fashion show for the draftees. Dick took that notion to heart on Thursday.
Dick was wearing a sparkling ruby-red jacket and shirt. The color resembled the slippers that Judy Garland’s character, Dorothy Gale, wore in the classic 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz. And that was not by accident. Dick noted that like Dorothy, he’s from the Sunflower state.
“So I’m from Kansas. Dorothy has her little slippers. I got my Dorothy suits,” Dick said. He also showed off his shoes — which were black with red soles — as well as a necklace with his logo.
You don’t wear an outfit like this if you don’t want to generate a buzz. Dick certainly did that.
The obvious comparison is the one that Dick made. But his outfit drew several other comparisons and generated other humorous comments, as well.
