The Golden State Warriors have been one of the best teams in the NBA for the better part of a decade, winning four championships since 2015. However, a huge report suggests that they may lose perhaps the biggest factor in their success in general manager and president of basketball operations Bob Myers.
Golden State is a team that was truly built from the ground up by Myers. Myers played the most significant role in drafting Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
He is the brainpower behind this roster that has continued to achieve in his tenure. Unfortunately for Warriors fans, he may be on his way out of the organization.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday night that Myers and the Warriors have had “no substantial contract extension talks in months” and that both sides are “bracing” for Myers potentially departing from the organization.
They notably fell short of repeating as NBA Champions this season with a loss in the second round against the Los Angeles Lakers. Changes were expected, but this wasn’t one that most fans were ready to potentially hear.
Many around the NBA world took notice of this shocking news.
If he does ultimately decide to part ways with Golden State, it will certainly be a blow to a team that may be slightly falling from its dynasty status.
Given his excellent run in Golden State, Myers would likely become a top target for a number of teams in need of a new direction for their organization.
