Four players in NBA history have five consecutive games with at least 30 points and at least five three-pointers: Stephen Curry, James Harden, Damian Lillard… and Gary Trent JR.
Trent scored 33 points — a team-high by 12 — to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 110-106 victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. He was 6-of-10 on triples.
The 2018 second-round pick out of Duke has scored 31-to-33 points in each of the last five games, and he’s made 31 three-pointers over those games.
He also set the Raptors’ record for consecutive 30-point games.
Trent has played in 40 games for Toronto this season, starting 39 of them and averaging 34.5 minutes played. Before this five-game stretch, he scored at least 31 points once on the season, when he had 31 vs the Utah Jazz on Nov. 18. His next-highest scoring total was 26 points, twice. And he made at least five three-pointers four times on the season before this heater.
The scorching stretch has lifted Trent’s scoring average on the season to a career-high 17.8 points, topping last season’s mark of 16.2 points. He’s also led the Raptors to four wins over their last five games, with two of the wins coming against the Heat (32-20), and the only loss was against the Chicago Bulls (an East-best 32-18).
