Longtime NBA veteran center Enes Kanter Freedom is one of the most out-spoken athletes in the world. For better or worse, you always know where he stands on various social issues.
Freedom appeared on Fox News recently and discussed an idea where he would declare that he identifies as a woman, renaming himself “Eneishia” Kanter Freedom, and somehow “forcing” the WNBA to sign him to make an anti-transgender athlete statement.
“Would it be fair… I am 7-foot, 270 pounds… if I decided to identify myself as a woman and decided to play in the WNBA. Put on a wig and change my name to, just say, ‘Eneisha,'” Freedom said on the right-wing network.
“Would that be fair to all the women chasing their dreams since they were little kids? That’s what I’m saying. Where are all the women’s rights activists? Where are all the feminists? They have to stand up for this cause first.
“It’s very interesting why this should even be a debate. We just need to do whatever we can. All the male athletes should do whatever we can [about this issue].”
“What would happen if you put on a wig?” asked one of the Fox News hosts. “Would you be allowed in?”
“If I were allowed in,” Freedom said, “I would average 60 points and 30 rebounds.”
“But technically, would they allow that?” the Fox News host asked, unaware that it would require more than wig for Freedom to ever play in the NBA. “Do they have any rules in the WNBA that biological men can’t play?”
“I don’t think there are any rules against it.”
There are currently no transgender women competing in the WNBA.
The sports world was quick to react to Freedom’s insane idea:
Wow that's so cool man. Fun to think about https://t.co/4awtHzKTBO

Extremely on brand – whether on trans rights, voter fraud, tax law, etc. – for conservatives to be like “this thing I don’t like for other reasons is inviting fraud, and while no such cases exist, I will commit exactly that fraud” https://t.co/tUDc7uVlVD

It sucks how there was like a four-year period where Enes was one of the most admired, outspoken athletes in America before Fox News got to him and morphed him into a loathsome crank. https://t.co/OVDVByt1ZL
