Over the past couple of decades, NBA superstar Dwayne Wade has become one of the most iconic players in the entire NBA, particularly in Florida after he starred for the Miami Heat for several years. But it sounds like he and his family have moved away, and won’t be back.
During an appearance on the Thursday episode of Headliners with Rachel Nichols, Dwayne Wade revealed that he no longer lives in the state of Florida as a result of some policies that are not friendly to the LGBTQ community.
“That’s another reason why I don’t live in that state,” Wade said during the interview according to Yahoo! Sports. “A lot of people don’t know that. I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions.”
For Wade, the decision came as a result of some anti-LGBTQ policies that negatively affect his family after his 15-year-old daughter Zaya came out as transgender in 2020.
“I mean, obviously, the tax [situation] is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t live there,” Wade said.
It’s a pretty clear message to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that Wade does not support what he or his administration is doing in Florida.
