The internet never forgets and always keeps receipts. Thanks to, of all things, an airport’s Twitter/X account, the Los Angeles Clippers found that out on Friday as their season-ending loss to the Dallas Mavericks was wrapping up.

Los Angeles seemed to wrestle control of the series away with a 116-111 win in Game 4. That drew the series even at 2-2 and also gave the Clippers home-court advantage back, which they lost in Game 2. So, ahead of Game 5 in Los Angeles, the Clippers — or whoever is in charge of ads on Crypto.com Arena — got creative.

Game 5 wasn’t an elimination game. Still, there was an advertisement for Skyscanner on the building. It specifically detailed flights from Dallas to Cancún, which the NBA on ESPN Twitter/X accounted noted.

Of course, that aged like fine milk. These are the kind of things that the Freezing Cold Takes account — which reposted that tweet as the game was wrapping up — was made for. As we know now, the Clippers were routed on their home court in Game 5, losing by 30 points. Game 6 was a similar story, with the Mavericks winning 114-101.

With the win, Dallas moves on to a series with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Interestingly enough, with their season ending, the Clippers can now take that Dallas to Cancún flight.

That was not lost on the social media team at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

“Sometimes an Oklahoma City business trip > a Cancun vacation,” the tweet said.

Hard to argue with that here.
