When a basketball player is on fire, it sometimes feels like he can’t miss. That was the case for Houston Rockets center Christian Wood on Monday night.
Wood had the best game of his career on Monday against the Washington Wizards. Not only did he have a double-double, but he also scored 39 points, breaking his prior career-high of 33. Part of the 39 points was eight three-pointers, which bested his season-high of five and career-high of six.
Wood got the ball in one-on-one coverage against Washington’s Rui Hachimura. After a few dribbles, Wood pulled up and fired a shot from Steph Curry range — well beyond the three-point line. For the Rockets and their fans, it was a “no, no, no, no, yes” moment.
That had people buzzing.
What is Christian Wood on tonight, this isn’t normal at all

This is the Christian Wood we thought we could get when we signed him two years ago.

Monday’s game against the Wizards was not only the best game of Wood’s career. He had a stat line that no other player in the history of the NBA has ever produced in a single game.
The Rockets aren’t playing for anything meaningful this season. Even after Monday’s win over Washington, Houston has the worst record in the league and has long been well outside of any postseason race.
Games like this, though, can be a lot of fun for the fans. Wood is only 26. So if he can build off of games like this, he’s definitely someone the Rockets and their fans will like to have around going forward.
