In an effort to bolster their frontcourt, the Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN originally reported the deal and later added the full terms of the deal, which includes a lot of draft picks being moved.
Wojnarowski later clarified that it was Detroit, not Denver, getting a 2025 second round pick back from Portland.
Bobby Marks of ESPN added that Grant’s salary will go into the trade exception from when the Blazers dealt CJ McCollum.
The general feeling in the immediate aftermath of the deal was that Portland got the better of things.
This is a pretty rough haul for Grant, IMO https://t.co/UP0VcVrNWj

Though, there were some NBA fans who didn’t necesarilly feel that way.
Grant will be leaving a team that was one of the NBA’s worst in the 2021-22 season but going to another. The Pistons were 23-59 last season while the Blazers were 27-55. Portland was also the fourth-worst team in both points per game and points allowed per game.
Grant is coming off of the best two scoring seasons of his career. He averaged 22.3 points per game for Detroit during the 2020-21 season and 19.2 per game in the 2021-22 season. Over those two seasons, he shot 42.8% from the field, 35.3% on threes and 84.2% on free throws. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game over the two seasons with the Pistons.
