Unfortunately, the days of DeAndre Jordan being the focal point of the Clippers offense have ended before they even began. After reportedly setting a meetings with the Suns and Nuggets as a free agent, Clips power forward Blake Griffin has decided to re-sign with the team on a five-year max contract worth $173 million, according to Yahoo’s Shams Charania.
With Chris Paul getting traded to the Rockets, Griffin will take centerstage as the Clippers’ star. He hasn’t played a full season since 2013-14 due to various injuries but averaged 21.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 61 games last year.
Now the Clippers can build around Griffin, who is still in the middle of his prime at 28 years old. With DeAndre Jordan still around and Montrezl Harrell and Sam Dekker, a pair of promising young forwards, coming to L.A. in the Paul deal, the Clippers could have a strong frontcourt for years to come.
