Anthony Davis went crazy Sunday afternoon, becoming the first player since Shaquille O’Neal to score at least 55 points and grab 20 rebounds in a game, as he put up 59 and 20 in a win over the Pistons.
Davis’ total was the most for any player in an NBA game this season and also set a new Hornets/Pelicans franchise record.
Davis shot 24-34 from the field, including 2-2 from 3-point range and 9-10 from the free-throw line. For good measure, he added four assists.
Obviously, Sunday was the best game of the season for Davis, who’s having another incredible season, despite his numbers dropping slightly from his breakout 2014-15 campaign. The forward is averaging 23.6 points and 9.9 rebounds a game for the 21-33 Pelicans.
One of these days, Davis is going to take the next step and become the best player in the NBA, and when he does, it will look something like Sunday.
