It has been over two years since we have seen MMA superstar Conor McGregor in the UFC octagon. But his latest social media message seems to indicate that he will be stepping back into the cage very soon.

McGregor lost his last fight back in July of 2021 in a trilogy rematch against Dustin Poirier where he suffered a gruesome leg injury that sidelined him.

He was most recently seen on the latest installment of ESPN+ product The Ultimate Fighter, where he was a coach for the show against fellow UFC lightweight Michael Chandler.

It is typically agreed upon that the two coaches of the show end up facing one another once the show is over, but the fight has been delayed. And McGregor even took to social media in a now-deleted tweet to detail that he no longer wanted the fight against Chandler.

It seems like he may have backtracked on this opinion on the fight against Chandler, as he took to social media on Sunday to post a picture that indicates that the fight is now back on.

According to the picture from McGregor, the fight will now take place at UFC 296 on December 16th. While the UFC has not confirmed this date yet on their social media account, fans are certainly hoping that this is indeed a scheduled fight.

At 35 years of age, McGregor could certainly use a big win over a fighter like Michael Chandler if he wants to return to title contention in the stacked lightweight division.

But at this point, McGregor could be solely focused on the biggest name fights instead of contending for another belt. And a win against Chandler could open a number of possibilities for him in the future.
