Punk left WWE for UFC in December 2014 and will make his UFC debut the night before WWE’s second biggest PPV event of the year SummerSlam. Since Punk signed with UFC, he has battled through a back and shoulder injuries and has been unable to fight for the past year and a half. Punk went into detail about his injuries in this documentary done by MMA Fighting.
Fox Sports 1 is planning to show a documentary on Punk right around the time Punk makes his debut, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. Fox Sports announced it would begin working on the documentary in 2015.
News of Punk’s debut is just part of UFC’s recent media circus. On Monday, Brock Lesnar announced on SportsCenter that he will fight in UFC 200. We also learned Monday that the UFC has banned Ariel Helwani, who is formerly of Fox Sports and SB Nation, for breaking the news of Lesnar’s return before Lesnar could announce his plans to return to the octagon.
