The Home Run Derby was great for guys like Giancarlo Stanton and Todd Frazier last night, and not so great for guys like Padres first baseman Wil Myers.

Myers, the hometown product representing the Padres at the All-Star festivities, not only lost in the first round of the Derby, but his brother, who was pitching to him during the contest, hit him with a pitch in the process.

I guess Beau Myers doesn’t like it when his brother hugs the plate:

Myers laughed off getting hit by the pitch, which isn’t so bad since it came in a batting practice speed. But this will be something that will be brought up at family gatherings and on holidays for years to come.

The Cano’s will have similar conversations, as Robinson’s dad hit him with a pitch as well. With Robinson trailing Giancarlo Stanton in the first round, the elder Cano decided to go at the knees:

Cano has been here before (and won the Derby in 2011), so he can’t be too bummed. But surely losing in the first round of the competition and getting hit by a pitch from his own brother was not how Wil Myers grew up imagining that this would work out for him.
