Keynan Middleton took the field once again in Chicago Wednesday night, and to say he did not get a warm welcome doesn’t begin to describe the awkward situation that developed.
Middleton, traded by the Chicago White Sox to the New York Yankees at the deadline, immediately caused a huge stir Monday after telling ESPN that he was happy with the trade. He claimed the White Sox had “no rules,” rookies slept in the bullpen, players missed meetings and there was no accountability.
Naturally, these claims did not go over well with the White Sox or their fans. White Sox GM Rick Hahn and manager Pedro Grifol both refuted Middleton’s claims.
As fate would have it, the Yankees visited Chicago to start the week. Middleton did not appear in the first two games of the series, but entered the finale in the fourth inning.
He got the ultimate silent treatment at Guaranteed Rate Field, as White Sox game operations did not even acknowledge his presence on the scoreboard.
Fans overwhelmingly thought the White Sox were being a bit petty with their actions, with many saying it just proved Middleton’s point about the team’s poor culture.
This Sox organization is done. Front office has gotten very petty. Investors should be upset with the behavior.
