Saturday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox featured a long weather delay. But once the weather cleared, the fans in Chicago were treated to an unforgettable pregame ceremony.
The White Sox honored a young fan before the game. The fan — who has dealt with and is still going through some major health issues — not only threw out the ceremonial first pitch but got to live out his “ultimate wish.”
So, what was Beau’s wish? To do a “home run for life.” So, before the game began, he ran around the bases as the fans in the stands cheered him on. Only, the fans weren’t the only ones cheering Beau on.
Players from both the Orioles and White Sox came onto the field to cheer him on. And this wasn’t only a few players. The scene looked like Opening Day or the first game of a playoff series. The Orioles lined up en masse down the first baseline while the White Sox did the same down the third baseline, with the players greeting him as he ran past them.
One player who made a point of talking to Beau was Baltimore’s Trey Mancini, himself a cancer survior. MLB fans loved the moment.

I grew up next door to Beau’s Mother Meg. The strength Beau has showed through all this has been nothing short of amazing.
Absolute A+ job here @whitesox https://t.co/n4c4D3Xi1B

Saturday’s slate of MLB action includes at least two games that can easily be October previews. But the best, most significant moment of the day happened before a game pitting two sub .500 teams against each other. Some things are bigger than the game. This definitely qualifies.
