The Chicago White Sox have relieved executive vice president Ken Williams and senior vice president and general manager Rick Hahn of their duties.
The shocking move was made and announced on Tuesday via the team’s social media accounts.
The decision was made by club owner Jerry Reinsdorf.
“This is an incredibly difficult decision for me to make because they are both talented individuals with long-term relationships at the White Sox,” said Reinsdorf in a statement. “Ken is like a son to me, and I will always consider him a member of my family. I want to personally thank Ken and Rick for all they have done for the Chicago White Sox, winning the 2005 World Series and reaching the postseason multiple times during their tenures. I have nothing but the greatest respect for them as people and appreciate the commitment and passion for the White Sox they exhibited over the years.”
The White Sox enter Tuesday with a 49-76 record. They went to the playoffs the last two seasons but lost before reaching the American League Championship Series both times. However, this season has been a disaster and both Williams and Hahn have faced heavy criticism over their decisions.
