The Chicago White Sox entered Friday with the best record (33-17) in the American League, and they decided to even call up 2020 first-round pick Garrett Crochet to help their quest for a championship. And after seeing Crochet’s MLB debut on Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds, you can understand why the White Sox made the aggressive move.
The 6’6″ left-hander retired all three batters he faced, striking out the first two. His fastball ranged from 99.4-101.5 mph, and he complemented it with a nasty slider.
Crochet was the 11th overall pick out of Tennessee in June’s draft, and he only pitched in one game for the Vols before COVID-19 shut down the college baseball season. His arm is clearly feeling fresh, and it looks like he could be a legitimate bullpen weapon for the White Sox down the stretch- and potentially into October.
