Colorado Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra was carted off the field following a leg suffered in a collision with Rockies shortstop Trevor Story on Tuesday night in Denver.
In the top of the third inning at Coors Field, New York Yankees’ Jacoby Ellsbury hit a pop-up into shallow left field, where Parra was camped under the ball. Story, a rookie shortstop, apparently didn’t realize Parra was camped under the ball, and a nasty collision followed:
As Parra was making the catch, Story dove, but he ended up rolling over on Parra’s left leg. Parra appeared to have injured his left ankle and clearly was in a lot of pain. He was taken off the field on a cart.
That is the left fielder’s ball if he can get to it, and Parra most certainly got to it. Clearly Story didn’t see and/or hear Parra, but that collision should’ve never happened, and hopefully Parra didn’t suffer a severe injury out of it. Parra’s reaction would tell you it’s pretty bad though.
Update: According to the Rockies, Parra’s injury is only a leg sprain, and he’s day to day. That’s good to hear.
