Disgraced MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer is only a few months into his stint in Nippon Professional Baseball, but he’s already apparently reached the end of his fuse.
Bauer, the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner, blew up at his Yokohama DeNA BayStars in a July 1 game after a botched run-down play.
The Chunichi Dragons had two men on and two outs in the sixth inning when the batter hit a ball to the second baseman. Without getting into a blow-by-blow recap of the entire sequence, which is fairly hilarious, Bauer’s teammates got two different Dragons in rundowns, yet couldn’t get an out.
Bauer appears absolutely furious after the play.
Bauer then took matters into his own hands. The next batter hit a grounder up the middle that Bauer speared. Rather than throwing to first for the easy out, Bauer sprinted to the bag to collect the out himself.
As he walked off the field, Bauer screamed “Wake up!” A few steps later, he screamed what appeared to be a word that rhymes with “Luck” that even many Japanese fans could probably interpret as a bad word.
Bauer’s MLB career went off the tracks in June 2021, when police investigated him for assault, and he faced a domestic violence restraining order over allegations of sexual assault and physical abuse. Although the district attorney chose not to pursue criminal charges, MLB suspended the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policies. The Dodgers released Bauer Jan. 6.
Although an arbitrator reduced Bauer’s suspension from 324 games to 194 games and he is eligible to return to MLB, the free agent pitcher found no takers this spring and headed to Japan.
