An arbitrator not only reduced the suspension for Trevor Bauer on Thursday, but they also reinstated him too.
Bauer, the disgraced Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher accused of domestic violence and sexual assault, will have his lengthy suspension reduced. The arbitrator reduced the suspension, at 324 games, down to 194. Alden González, an MLB reporter for ESPN, tweeted, “Trevor Bauer’s initial 324-game suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy has been reduced to 194 games by an arbitrator, ending a seven-month grievance process.”
González continued with another major detail: The arbitrator reinstated Bauer, who could pitch immediately. He tweeted, “Bauer is eligible to pitch effective immediately, even though the suspension that was upheld by the arbitrator is longer than the amount he served since the initial suspension by MLB on April 30.”
He followed by saying the judge “gave Bauer credit” for his time on the restricted list.
News of Bauer’s reinstatement and suspension reduction followed the release of a disturbing report by The Washington Post. The Post reported previously unrevealed details about the arbitration case, which they reported came off like a trial.
MLB suspended Bauer this past April for violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policies. The Dodgers, who signed Bauer as a free agent in 2021, will have until January 6 to decide if he is on their active roster for 2023. USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reported the Dodgers’ plan is to release him.
