The Baltimore Orioles are bad. Very bad. The Orioles have a 35-69 record and 31 games back in the AL East. They had a run differential of -176.
But lately, the Orioles have actually resembled a competent Major League Baseball team, believe it or not. The Orioles beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-7 on Saturday night, giving Baltimore three straight wins and seven wins in their last 10 games.
And it’s pretty easy to figure out how the Orioles have won games during this stretch: by cranking dingers.
When catcher Pedro Severino hit a go-ahead home run in Saturday night’s sixth inning, the Orioles became the first team in MLB history to hit multiple homers in 10 straight games.
It’s not surprising that a team broke that record in 2019, when the ball is leaving the yard at a rate like never before. It’s just surprising that team is the Orioles.
