Texas Rangers relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress was arrested early Friday morning for reportedly driving while intoxicated in Dallas County.
The details on Jeffress’ arrest so far are pretty broad. Jail records only show that Jeffress was arrested and booked after 5 a.m. local time. The information that says Jeffress got a DWI is coming from a Dallas police source. No other information, such as bail or charges, have become public yet.
The Rangers have released a statement saying they were aware of the situation.
“At this time, we are in the process of … gathering information and have no further comment,” the statement said.
Jeffress, 28, was recently traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to Texas. In nine appearances for the Rangers, he’s compiled a 4.00 ERA with six strikeouts and five walks in nine innings. In seven major league seasons, he has a 2.98 ERA in 207 appearances.
This isn’t the first time Jeffress has dealt with off-the-field issues in his baseball career. In the minor leagues, Jeffress was suspended twice because he tested positive for marijuana. The failed drug tests resulted in 50-game and 100-game suspensions. He has yet to be suspended while playing in the majors.
This story is developing and more details will likely become available as the day continues.
