Ian Kinsler, who starred with the Texas Rangers in his big league career, will return to the team’s front office.
The Rangers hired Kinsler to be the team’s special assistant to GM Chris Young.
Texas’ PR account officially announced the move in a tweet. The tweet read, “The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has hired former Major League player Ian Kinsler as Special Assistant to the General Manager. The former Rangers second baseman will assist General Manager Chris Young in many facets of baseball operations.”
Kinsler had a terrific career as a player with the Rangers. He stood as one of their most recognizable faces of the late 2000s and the 2010s. In eight years with the club, Kinsler recorded 1,145 hits, 156 home runs, 249 doubles, 539 RBI, and 748 runs scored. He’s one of the best of the 21st century to play for the Rangers.
The Rangers have had an extremely busy offseason. They signed big-time ace pitcher Jacob deGrom to a massive year, a year after they signed Corey Seager and Marcus Semien. The team is hoping for better results than last season. In 2022, the Rangers finished 68-94 and in fourth place in the AL West. The only team they finished ahead of were the Oakland Athletics. Texas fired Chris Woodward as manager during the season. They then replaced him with former three-time World Series Champion manager, Bruce Bochy.
