Pittsburgh Pirates rookie starting pitcher Paul Skenes showed off his upside in his first career start last week. But on Friday, he showed that he truly has the potential to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, utterly dominating the Chicago Cubs throughout his outing.

Skenes comes into the MLB with a ton of hype after being selected by the Pirates first overall in the 2023 MLB Draft. Since then, he has shot all the way from Low-A ball to the major leagues in what has been a meteoric rise in not that long of a time with the team.

It hasn’t taken long for Skenes to settle into being a major league pitcher. On Friday, Skenes was able to strike out 11 Cubs batters, allowing zero hits and only one walk over six innings of flawless work on the bump.

Those numbers obviously tell the tale. But to truly understand just how great Skenes was, you have to see some of his highlights throughout the game, completely overmatching Cubs batters with his truly special stuff.

Naturally, fans had plenty to say about the outing on X, formerly known as Twitter.

If Skenes can keep up this kind of play moving forward, he will certainly find himself in conversations for being one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in no time.
