The Washington Nationals offense showed up to Nationals Park on Thursday afternoon for their game with the Milwaukee Brewers. Brewers reliever Michael Blazek, making a spot start, probably wished he didn’t even step foot into the stadium.
In the first inning, Blazek allowed a two-run dinger to Bryce Harper.
In the third inning, he gave up a two-run homer to Brian Goodwin.
And then a solo homer to Wilmer Difo.
And then a solo homer to Harper, his second of the day.
And then a solo homer to Ryan Zimmerman.
After getting Daniel Murphy to fly out, Blazek allowed his fifth home run of the inning (and sixth of the day), a solo shot to Anthony Rendon.
That ended his day. Blazek’s final line? 2 1/3 innings pitched, seven hits, eight runs (all earned!), one walk, four strikeouts, and a whopping six home runs. His game score was -18, which is very bad.
In addition to the five home run inning, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer reached base twice, and Adam Lind stole a base, his first in four years.
Through three innings, every National but Murphy has a hit. Every National but Murphy and catcher Jose Lobaton has scored a run. Every National but Murphy, Lind, and Scherzer has driven in a run.
In case you’re curious, five homers in an inning ties a record, and no MLB team has hit four straight dingers since 2010.

It might be a long afternoon for the Brewers.
UPDATE: the afternoon did get longer. Zimmerman and Lobaton each homered in the fourth inning, pushing Washington to a team-record eight home runs.
