Mookie Betts won four Gold Gloves with the Boston Red Sox, and he didn’t take long in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform to show why.
Leading off the bottom of the first, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte hit what would’ve been a triple with his speed if likely anybody else on the planet had been playing right field. But Betts fielded the ball deep down the right field line, and unleashed a cannon throw to incredibly get Marte at third base.
That’s a well-earned outfield assist.
But Betts isn’t just a fantastic defender; he’s one of the best hitters in baseball (and an elite baserunner too). And the 2018 AL MVP showed off his offensive skills with a dinger down the left field line in the top of the fourth, for his first homer as a Dodger.
Betts’ remarkable all-around game is why the Dodgers signed him to a $365 million extension last week.
