For the past several years, the Los Angeles Angels have had two of the best players in the history of Major League Baseball on the same roster with Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani leading the team. But unfortunately, that hasn’t always led to much success for the team due to some failures from the rest of the lineup. And that was the case once again on Friday night.
During a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night, the Los Angeles Angels got plenty of production from both Trout and Ohtani as the pair combined for three hits, a home run, and two runs batted in. But the rest of the team could not help them out as nobody else on the entire roster was able to even get a hit, leading to some unfortunate MLB history.
“The Angels are the first MLB team to have a pair of former MVPs (Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout) each get an extra-base hit but have the rest of the team go hitless since the Yankees did it with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris on May 6, 1962,” OptaSTATS said in a tweet on early Saturday morning.
It’s certainly a tough situation for the team and the MLB world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Me with these Angels stats where Ohtani and Trout do something crazy and the team does something even crazier for them to lose… https://t.co/RdsD7GwSa7 pic.twitter.com/e2FOfBDHOc

The Angels don't deserve Trout and Ohtani. @NFLNewshound https://t.co/FPpIDRhaWc

It feels like situations like this happen all too frequently for the Angels.
