The beginning of the week was filled with lots of optimism for the Los Angeles Angels with Mike Trout returning to the lineup from injury, Shohei Ohtani returning to the mound, and the team still in contention for a Wild Card spot. But the good vibes left in a hurry on Wednesday as Ohtani suffered a torn UCL, Trout returned to the injured list, and the team was swept by the Cincinnati Reds.
Shohei Ohtani made his first start in two weeks on Wednesday, but his outing quickly came when he was pulled from the game with “arm fatigue” after just five batters. Unfortunately for Ohtani and the Angels, it was more than just fatigue as the superstar was determined to have suffered a torn UCL and will not pitch the remainder of the season.
Mike Trout, meanwhile, returned to the starting lineup this week after missing nearly two months with a hand injury. But his time in the lineup was shortlived as he was put back on the injured list on Thursday night.
And to top it all off, the Angels lost back-to-back games to the Cincinnati Reds in a doubleheader on Wednesday to finish off a three-game sweep.
All in all, it was a horrible day for the Angels, and it led to all sorts of reactions on social media.
It simply cannot get much worse for the Angels.
