Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout will need surgery on his injured knee.
The dispiriting news on Trout, one of the best players of his era, came through the wire on Tuesday evening.
ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. Gonzalez noted that while he will require surgery, it’s not deemed “season-ending.”
“Mike Trout needs surgery on his knee,” Gonzalez said. “The extent is not known, but a source said it is not expected to be season-ending.”
Gonzalez later noted that Trout was diagnosed with a torn meniscus.
It’s a torn meniscus, Angels GM Perry Minasian shuts announced. No timetable right now.

Trout expressed emotion and disappointment with the injury in an interview held shortly after the news on him dropped.
This is a difficult pill to swallow for fans of Trout. It’s become almost greatly unfortunate that fortune hasn’t turned his way during his Angels career. He’s quite easily one of the best players in baseball and arguably the best without a title to his name.
This news obviously impacts that further. Even if you argue the Angels weren’t going to compete, and they probably won’t, this may also take him out of any trade equations later on.
It’s always unfortunate when the game’s biggest superstars go down with injuries. The MLB world expressed extreme disappointment over the news on Trout and did so almost unanimously.
