As far as we can tell, Mike Trout has only two personal characteristics: 1) He’s super good at baseball. 2) He really, really, really likes weather.

While Trout’s baseball career is humming along just fine, his meteorology career got a big boost recently when The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore (Trout’s hero) sent him his very own weather balloon, according to MLB.com:

The noted weather expert recently sent Trout his own weather balloon, which uses a small measuring device to track information on things like temperature, humidity and wind speed.

“I’m really excited about that,” Trout said, with a big smile on his face, before the Angels’ first full-squad workout on Wednesday.

Trout doesn’t know all that much about advanced analytics — “I’ve been here a couple years now,” he said, “and I still haven’t figured out what that stuff means” — but he’s all about that atmospheric pressure. He goes on every website, checks every radar and hardly even sleeps whenever unusual weather reaches his hometown of Millville, N.J.

Weather balloons really separate the men from the boys when it comes to measuring the weather, so this is a big step in Trout’s meteorological endeavors.

And it couldn’t have come from a better source. Trout has always been a bit of a fanboy for Cantore, joining Cantore on the air and tweeting at the meteorologist from the middle of a blizzard.

Did the Angels star bring his new toy to spring training in Tempe, Ariz.? If so, he wasn’t letting on. Maybe that’s some fun he prefers to keep to himself, some loved ones and maybe a few teammates. But he probably doesn’t want to spend six weeks away from that new weather balloon, right? Regardless, it’s nice to see all of Trout’s dreams coming true, on the field and in the snow.
