Days before the Major League Baseball All-Star break, one of the league’s biggest stars will hit the injury list. Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout suffered a hamate injury that will put him on the MLB 10-day IL.
The Athletic’s Sam Blum tweeted, “Angels announce that Mike Trout is going on the IL with a left hamate fracture. That’s a massive blow for the Angels, who are already dealing with many injuries.” Blum also added that the team called outfielder Jo Adell up to fill the absence left by the former multi-time American League MVP.
The Angels are contending for a Wild Card spot near the All-Star break. Key reasons include the play of mega-star Shohei Ohtani and Trout. He’s hitting .263/.369/.493 with 18 home runs. While his .493 slugging percentage is the lowest of his career, he’s still been a vital source of offense for the Angels.
It’s a brutal blow for the Halos as they deal with several hits to the roster. Max Stassi, Gio Urshela, Brandon Drury, and Zach Neto have all hit the IL within the last month. Trout is the latest Angel position player to hit the IL, so it’s a big blow to the offense that the team didn’t need. And not after a month where they had a +20 run differential, either.
The MLB world reacted to the Mike Trout injury news.
Oh no, that’s awful
Wishing him well and hoping he’ll be back this season

Same injury Wander Franco had last year. Took him 2 months to return. https://t.co/YLVmqM4RYV
