The New York Mets have produced a lot of chicanery lately, and that train won’t stop anytime soon.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mets owner Steven Cohen took to Twitter to make an announcement: Cohen planned to do a press conference before the Mets’ next game.
“I will be doing a press conference tomorrow before the game,” Cohen announced, before promising his followers and the MLB world, “you will get it from me straight.”
Since the calendar turned to June, the Mets have won just six games. They are a dismal 6-16 this month and have fallen down to fourth place in the competitive National League East. Monday night’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers sent them down to 16.0 games behind first-place Atlanta.
Buck Showalter and his managing prowess have come under fire. Showalter has faced heavy scrutiny for the way he’s used his pitchers and built his lineup. At the end of the day, the manager will get heat, and fans have called for Cohen to make some kind of move.
Whether that’s pulling a George Steinbrenner and firing the manager or just doing something, fans have voiced their displeasure with Cohen and his direction. After saying he wasn’t going to overreact to anything, it now appears that he’ll have to at least react to the team’s disappointing season.
The MLB world reacted to the Mets’ massive announcement.
Give it to us straight, sir: Is #athletics owner John Fisher the kind of guy who orders chicken tenders at every restaurant, then snaps his fingers to get the server's attention that s/he forgot his ketchup? https://t.co/gJMgXqF3c3

My GUESS is that this will be a “State of the Union” type thing.
Cohen will explain that he hears the fans and can feel their frustration because he feels it too etc etc.
I highly doubt he announces anyone is getting fired at the press conference.#Mets https://t.co/761VJR2aNB
